SALEM: Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union went on a fast here on Thursday urging the State Government to consider the 2002 strike period as working days for the 999 employees, who were dismissed from service and reinstated later. They urged the government to withdraw TESMA and set up a joint advisory committee to sort out the issues. It should also lift the ban on recruiting workers and recognise all the employees who were recruited on contract basis as permanent. They should be given promotion and other benefits, the members said. Retirement benefits and bonus should be given to all the employees, the members added. State president of the union, V. Chithaiyan, led the protest. District president, P. Periyasamy and several others participated.
