Setting an idea in concrete

WHEN S.K. AGRAWAL was the Project Director of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project, he struck upon the idea of erecting a structure at a prime spot between his office and the reactor site.

He was also clear that the valiant structure should represent the supremacy of energy in the modern world.

The assignment was given to sculptor, Lenush T. of Mavelikkara, whose idea was transformed into a statue by Ms. Mrinalini of Thiruvananthapuram.

Christened `Power of Wings,' the sculpture, which does not represent a human being, bird or animal, heroically looks up at the sky with the goal of moving forward with the energy obtained from the universe. Mr. Agrawal, who has now been promoted Executive Director, Light Water Reactors, unveiled the plaque with his successor, K.C. Purohit, on Thursday.

The commemorative inscription installed near the sculpture reads: `We do not come with anything into the world; We do not go with anything either; What we leave back are some thoughts and ideas that we generated with the power and energy we got from the world.'

From P. Sudhakar in Tirunelveli
