BANGALORE: The importance of educating a girl child; the right nutrition for a lactating mother; and what makes a healthy mother and child. These were some of the aspects dealt with at the exhibition organised by St. John's College of Nursing as part of their silver jubilee celebrations on the World Health Organisation theme for World Health Day, "Healthy Mother and Children." The three-day exhibition that ended on Thursday had various displays on the health and nutrition of the mother and child health. Students of the nursing college put up a good show with some innovative models made with various materials. While one of the models dealt with discrimination against the girl child and the need for proper nutrition, another depicted the responsibility of the family and society to properly bring up and educate the girl child. There was a detailed and innovatively made model of the reproductive organs and the students explained the need for sex education. There were also charts and collages on marriage and planned parenthood. The exhibition gave a lot of information for expectant mothers. There were stalls with displays on diagnosing pregnancy, minor and major disorders in pregnancy, antenatal care, physiological changes and psychological aspects of pregnancy, preparation for delivery, intra-natal care, postnatal care, including mother's diet, exercise, hygiene and family planning, and newborn care, including breast feeding and immunisation. The St. John's College of Nursing under the St. John's National Academy of Health Sciences, was set up on July 1, 1980 to provide quality nursing care.
