NOIDA: Delhi youngster Chirag Kumar maintained his lead at the end of the third round in the Northern India Open golf tournament at the Noida golf course here on Thursday. Chirag had a one-over 73 in the third round for a three-day tally of 217. In second place, a stroke behind, was Vikrant Chopra, who carded a two-under 70 that included three birdies. That was the only sub-par round of yet another wet day. Simarjeet Singh, who shot a one-over 73 for a combined total of 220, was lying third. Chirag Kumar started with a birdie on the second, but followed it up with a bogey on the next hole. He then fired three birdies on the trot, on the eighth, ninth and 10th. He had another birdie on the 14th to be in a commanding position, but a triple bogey on the short 17th and another bogey on the final hole marred his card. "The conditions got tough towards the end and the rain didn't help my cause," said a dejected Chirag. Vikrant, unlike Chirag, started poorly with a bogey on the second, but recovered with a birdie on the fourth. He had two more birdies on the 13th and 14th. Vikram Rana, who was placed third at the end of day two had a disappointing day on Thursday when he had four bogeys and a birdie in his round of 75. He was overall fourth at the end of the day, two strokes behind Simarjeet. The scores: Chirag Kumar (75, 69, 73) 217; Vikrant Chopra (74, 74, 70) 218; Simarjeet Singh (74, 73, 73) 220; Vikram Rana (75, 72, 75) 222; Ranjit Singh (76, 73, 74) 223; Jasjeet Singh (75, 76, 74) 225; Manav Das (78, 76, 73) 227; Gaurav Pratap Singh (72, 76, 80) and Divij Talwar (74, 77, 77) 228; Tarun Ghogale (72, 80, 77), Gagan Verma (77, 76, 76) and Himmat Rai (78, 77, 74) 229.
