Approach to attack probe casual: BJP

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has said the Government's approach to investigations related to the Ayodhya terrorist attack was "casual."

Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that on the day after the attack, the BJP had talked about security lapses, which have now been admitted. The closed circuit cameras installed around the monument as part of the security arrangement were not in working order. If they were working it would have been easier to identify the terrorists. Mr. Javadekar also said that while some "jawans" put up a brave fight and the terrorists were killed, some police personnel had "fled the scene."

He alleged a lack of transparency in sharing information on the investigation, "in stark contrast to the investigations in the London attack," where the British Government had come out with full details and established the identity of the terrorists.
