SANGAREDDY: The State Government may consider Medak district as the venue for launch of the second phase of land distribution by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, the Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation, Dharmana Prasada Rao, said that Medak would be the ideal place for the Prime Minister's visit as it was the only district that had set a target of 25,000 acres for distribution. According to the Minister for Revenue, the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to visit the State any time after August 15, will first lay the foundation for the outer ring road in Hyderabad and formally inaugurate the one-lakh acre distribution programme from Medak district.
Rs. 1,000-crore package
In addition to the land distribution, the Prime Minister is expected to handover a Rs. 1,000-crore package for beneficiaries for development of the land they will receive during the inaugural. Mr. Prasada Rao said that no other state in the country had ever taken land distribution on such a large scale. He called upon the revenue employees to gear up for the occasion and rectify any mistakes committed during the first phase of distribution. Answering a question on the delay in land acquisition for construction of the projects, the Minister agreed that there were some teething troubles initially but the Revenue Department was fully equipped to reach the target in three years. He denied that the land had been acquired from farmers without paying the compensation. Mr. Prasada Rao said that Rs. 800 crores had been set-aside this financial year alone for compensation. Earlier, the Minister reviewed working of Revenue Department at the Zilla Parishat conference hall. The Minister for Tourism and Sugar, J. Geetha Reddy, the Minister for Minorities, Mohammad Fariduddin, the district Collector, B. Venkatesam, the Joint Collector, Vani Mohan, and legislators from the district participated in the meeting.
