Amarinder meets Prime Minister

NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, whose recent trip to Dubai created a controversy, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday.

Sources close to Mr. Singh said he met the Prime Minister to explain his position although the Chief Minister maintained that he had come to discuss law and order issues of the State. ``There were many issues of the State which I had to discuss with the Prime Minister... the law and order situation and recent activities of Babbar Khalsa,'' Mr. Singh said noting he meets the Prime Minister regularly to apprise him about various State issues.

The Punjab Government also sought aid from the Planning Commission for various schemes for farmers. He, however, parried questions on the Dubai visit and blamed the Opposition Akali Dal for raking up a controversy over the issue.

``Akalis first raked up the Intranet issue, then his visit to a Canadian Gurdwara and now the Dubai visit. But nothing has come out of all this,'' he said.

The Chief Minister had recently visited Dubai for a family function of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Paramjit Singh Sarna. -- PTI
