Rupee weakens
MUMBAI:
The rupee weakened on Thursday against the U.S. currency on renewed dollar demand from oil corporates. In yet another day of quiet and range-bound trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee closed at 43.5300/5350 a dollar, a two paise decline from Wednesday's close of 43.5100/5150. It opened on a weak note at 43.53/54 a dollar following the sudden overseas rally against major currencies, mainly the Euro. Despite steady foreign institutional investment inflows into the equity markets, the rupee underwent a downward correction on the back of a robust dollar overseas and fears of rising global oil prices, a forex dealer said.
