RIGHT MESSAGE: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, addressing schoolchildren after inaugurating the social welfare residential school in Palamaner in Chittoor district on Thursday.
PALAMANER (CHITTOOR DISTRICT): The itinerary of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's heavily-packed two-day visit to Chittoor district went astray, presumably due to the unforeseen developments in the capital. While he was scheduled to arrive by 9.30 p.m. at Palamaner, situated 115 km from Tirupati on the Bangalore national highway, his official chopper landed six hours behind schedule, throwing the two dozen stone-laying and inauguration programmes in Palamaner, Punganur and Madanapalle out of gear, resulting either in their shrinking or bunching up. Subsequently, his entire programme was converted into a road show. In his brief interaction with girl students after inaugurating the Social Welfare Residential School in Dandumitta, Mr. Reddy advised them to pursue studies, come what may, as girl students should not remain illiterates in the `Indiramma rajyam.' Later, he inaugurated a community health centre and laid a stone for ZP Urdu high school. Addressing the Muslim minorities, he explained that the 5 per cent reservation would immensely benefit them and render social justice to the poverty-stricken Muslims. He also visited a church in the town, braving a heavy downpour. He announced that water would be supplied to the denizens of the recently upgraded Palamaner municipality at a cost of Rs. 27 crores. He also interacted with the women self-help groups (SHG) members, who manage the bulk milk-cooling unit in Gangavaram. Later, he left for Punganur and Madanapalle, where he laid stones for several programmes at one go, in order to make up for the lost time. The Chief Minister is expected to reach Tirumala by road late on Thursday night to offer prayers at the Venkateswara temple early on Friday.
Confusion prevails
Utter chaos prevailed over the unprecedented delay in the Chief Minister's schedule as the top brass of police and district machinery were seen running helter skelter to get an update, while nobody had the right information.
