TIRUPATI: The Vasishta Vahan embroglio and the rapid developments in Hyderabad on Wednesday found its echo in Chittoor district too. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's two-day visit to the district assumes importance coming as it does in the context of the municipal elections which are round the corner. It is too obvious given the fact that the busy schedule prepared by the party managers and the district administration for his jaunts in the district covered only the municipal towns-- both existing and the proposed one. While Madanapalle and Punganur are among the existing municipalities, Palamaner happens to be the newly carved-out municipality and despite his arrival several hours behind schedule, Dr. Reddy touched all the three municipalities. He participated nearly in all the programmes bulk of which were obviously either laying the stone for some work or project in the municipal wards. Among the works for which he laid the foundation stone on Wednesday were for BT or CC roads, new Urdu medium classes or Urdu medium elementary schools, door-to-door garbage collection work, water supply schemes in the wards, Rajiv Griha Kalpa scheme, urban housing and so on. Dr. Reddy rushed through his programmes barely addressing any public meetings except at a few places. The Chief Minister also visited a Hindu shrine in Punganur, a mosque in Palamaner and a church in Madanapalle. He briefly interacted with the religious groups and highlighted the need to keep the communal forces at bay.
