A majority of recommendations to be implemented in eight years

BANGALORE: The implementation of all the recommendations of the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee on Regional Imbalances demands special programmes and adequate funds, the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, said in the Legislative Council on Thursday.

Replying to Maruthi Rao D. Male (Congress), who sought details on the committee's report and the Government's financial commitment for its implementation, he said the Government requires Rs. 31,000 crores to implement all the recommendations made in the report. However, the Government is committed to implementing a majority of the recommendations through its special development plans in eight years at an estimated cost of Rs. 16, 000 crores. Of the amount, Rs. 9,600 crores (60 per cent) is required for development works in northern Karnataka and the rest for projects in the old Mysore area, he added.
