NELLORE: The police in Vakadu have busted a five-member gang which allegedly attempted to loot property of Sri Kamakshi Pandurangeswara Swami temple, in Mulapadava panchayat limits. Earlier, the gang members came in a car and started asking local people questions about the temple's idols and began examining its surroundings. However, their movements led to suspicion among the temple staff, particularly the priest, who immediately alerted the trust board members. When the members were returning from the lighthouse area, where they had gone on pretext of `sight seeing', they were stopped by the villagers. However, one of the occupants started running with a bag. He however was overpowered and on an examination, the bag was found to contain a chisel, a small stick made out of rock and three tyre tubes. Thereafter, the offenders were detained by the locals and the matter was reported to the police, who took the gang members into custody.
