MANGALORE: P. Chandrappa took charge as the Commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation here on Thursday. Soon after taking charge, Dr. Chandrappa visited all the departments of the corporation and held talks with officials and department heads. He later spoke to presspersons and said he will strive to streamline the administration, particularly the issuing of trade licence and certificates. Dr. Chandrappa said Mangalore is a beautiful city inhabited by enlightened people. His primary objective is to complete the ongoing civil works as quickly as possible and clear roads of encroachments. He said he will attend to complaints of people against the corporation and will direct the officials to speedily act on them. There is a need for the corporation to streamline the collection of taxes and augment resources. People can contact him directly if they face any problem, he added. When asked about the delay in choosing the Mayor, Dr. Chandrappa said the corporation is awaiting the court directive in this matter. Dr. Chandrappa has served in the Sirsi, Chikmagalur, Tumkur, Hassan, Hospet, Bangalore and KGF municipalities in different posts.
