Threat to Gujarat power stations
Special Correspondent
GANDHINAGAR:
: Security has been strengthened at the Gandhinagar and Vanakbori thermal power stations following "threats" of terrorist attack.
The Director-General of Police, A. K. Bhargava, has also asked the Gujarat Electricity Board to strengthen its internal security.
Unsigned letters
Some unsigned letters were received by the Board on Thursday threatening to blow up the stations.
"It can be a hoax, but we can not take chances," Mr. Bhargava said.
The Gujarat police is learnt to have initiated an inquiry following reports of a "Broach link" to the London explosions the mother-in-law of one of the suspected suicide bombers hailing from the central Gujarat town.
The police are tight-lipped on the issue, but it is learnt that they were trying to get information on whether any of her close relatives were living in Broach and had links with the family in the United Kingdom.
