On Sunday morning, when the roads are relatively clear, the beauties of the yesteryear will roll out. They would chug along the podium, take off from the flag, move out of Casa Major Road on to Spurtank Road and off for a drive around the city. The oldest among the beauties, they said, is 78 years old. For a change, the old will hog the limelight at the Heritage Car Rally on Sunday. Seen at the rally will be Austins, Plymouths, Citroens, Buicks, Vauxhall, Morris-8 and several other classic models - big and small, wide and slick. A section of vintage bikes will be an attraction as well. The show will kick off at Don Bosco School on Casa Major Road, Egmore, said Balraj Vasudevan, president, Madras Heritage Motoring Club, the organisers of the event. Raja Mukherjee, an expert on heritage cars from Kolkata, will judge the entries according to their quality of restoration, originality, original colour combination and equipment in working condition, he added. My TVS, an integrated car services brand launched by the TVS group in 2003, will be the chief sponsors of the show, said its vice president, R. Srivatchan. He, along with actor Vivek, would flag off the rally, while chess champion Viswanathan Anand would give away the prizes, Mr. Balraj said. About 70 cars are expected to participate. The rally begins at 9.30 a.m. Details with Kylas Swaminathan, secretary of the Club, Mob: 93822 06926. Staff Reporter
