Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Velachery, Sembium, Ramapuram, Foreshore Estate, Besant Nagar, Korattur, Kadaperi, Sastri Nagar, Mylapore, Pammal, Maduravoyal, Mandaveli, T.V. Pet, Pudupet, Sowcarpet, Kilpauk, Flower Bazaar, S.K. Nagar and K.K. Nagar areas on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Aani Swathi festival

The Aani Swathi festival of Periazhwar at Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kancheepuram has been in progress since July 6. It concludes on Friday. On the occasion, Lord Varadaraja will be taken in a procession on Garuda Vahana, accompanied by the saint.

World Population Day observed

The Department of Social Work, SNDB Vaishnav College for Women will observe `World Population Day,' at their college in Chromepet. They will be performing a street theatre in the college premises on Friday.

Inter-school fete

Valliammal Mat. HSS, Anna Nagar East, celebrated the Inter-school literary and cultural bonanza on July 8 and 9 with the theme, `Urge to Surge.' Dr. Sunder Subramaniam, Medical Director, Prem Centre, Chennai, inaugurated the programme. A.P. Manikandan, president, A.M. Arivudai Nambi, correspondent and Geetha Ramasubramanian, Principal, participated. About 700 students from 30 schools took part. Spartan Mat. HSS bagged the maximum participation trophy and Velammal Mat. HSS, clinched the rolling trophy for the maximum points.

Lecture

As part of the career development programme for students Dhanraj Baid Jain College on Monday, P. Mishra, Assistant vice-president, Industrial Technical Consultancy Organisation of Tamil Nadu spoke on quality and skill of the entrepreneur.

Eye camp

The NSS Unit of Sathyabama Deemed University is arranging a free eye camp for students and staff members in collaboration with Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Chennai. About 4,000 students will benefit by the five-day camp commencing on Monday.

Training on meditation

A free two-day training programme on Pranahuti Aided Meditation will be conducted by the Institute of Sri Ramachandra Consciousness at Valasaravakkam. Course will be held on July 23 and 24, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 42, Rajagopalan Street, Devi Karumariamman Nagar, Valasaravakkam.
