Held for presenting forged demand draft

CHENNAI: : The Central Crime Branch police on Thursday arrested Subramanian, an employee of the Raj Bhavan, on charges of presenting a forged demand draft in a nationalised bank. They are also on the lookout for nine more persons.

Police said nine persons presented 13 forged demand drafts for a total of Rs.75 lakhs, drawn on the Indian Overseas Bank, in various branches. The bank honoured 10.

The drafts were presented between June 29 and July 4. The incident came to light, when the drafts reached the regional office, police said. The bank's Regional Manager, S.Dinakar, preferred a complaint with the Central Crime Branch police. Police said Liyaqat Ali Khan of Broadway and Jagannatha Pandian of Abhiramapuram were the main culprits.
