COIMBATORE: The City Police have busted an inter-State gang involved in a case of dacoity and burglary in Singanallur and Ramanathapuram police limits. City Police Commissioner, Karan Singha, said on Thursday that special teams were formed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, Vidya D. Kulkarni to trace the gang involved in a burglary in Singanallur police station limits in May and in a dacoity in the house of a teacher at SNV Gardens on Nanjundapuram Road in the first week of June. Even as investigations were progressing, the police came across a case on June 21 in which a man was robbed of his wristwatch and Rs. 200. The police nabbed two persons the very next day. On interrogation, the duo revealed that an inter-State gang from Pardhi tribal community in Maharastra was behind a series of crimes in South India. Based on their confessions, a team led by Deputy Commissioner assisted by Assistant Commissioners of Crime, S. Jayapandian (Crime - West) and A.R. Velu (Crime - East) went to Aurangabad in Maharashtra. They got substantial evidences regarding the involvement of an eight-member gang led by Mahesh Seetharam Khalae. The team was on the lookout for the remaining six persons of the gang, Mr. Singha said.
