HYDERABAD: The craze for the Master of Computer Application (MCA) course seems to be back with over 90 per cent of the top 1,500 candidates opting for it at the centralised counselling for MBA and MCA courses that began at six centres in the State on Thursday. Out of the 1,500 candidates called for counselling from all over the State, 1,426 turned up the first day. The top ranker among the candidates was the 13th ranker, who attended the counselling at Visakhapatnam, while the 14th ranker appeared for the counselling at Hyderabad. Nearly half of the candidates preferred Hyderabad as the centre for counselling. The Camp Officer, Raghunath, said 1,383 candidates took admission under the open category. The BC, SC and ST candidates attended the counselling for seats under the reserved categories. Five per cent reservation for Muslim candidates was also being implemented this time. Earlier, the APSCHE Chairman, K.C. Reddy, inaugurated the counselling, being held for the first time at six centres. He said the convener would fill 19,464 seats. The total number of seats available in the university colleges was 2,020 while 27,670 seats were available in private colleges. There were 8,680 seats under the minority quota in minority colleges while 4,150 seats have been earmarked for 15 per cent management quota. Prof. Reddy said details of the faculty of all MBA and MCA colleges would be posted online. Assuring that quality would be maintained at any cost, he said a curriculum revision was on the cards.
