CME programme on drug formulary

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Drug Formulary will be held on Sunday at Hotel International. The programme will be inaugurated by Antony Isaac, GCDA chairman. Jeeson C. Unni, president, IAP, Kerala, will preside. The CME will be the second one on the subject this year. It will be followed by scientific deliberations where drug therapy in metabolic disorders in children, paediatric infections, paediatric gastroenterology and paediatric cardiology will be dealt with by experts in the field. The IAP has developed an exclusive and comprehensive drug formulary book and CD. The book and disc also contain the IAP's recommendations and guidelines for the treatment of paediatric illness.

A press statement from IAP, Kerala, said that the formulary can be updated from time to time on the CD as and when new information about paediatric drugs are available and posted on the website www.iapdrugformulary.com. Using the formulary for treating children has been shown to ensure a rational drug therapy and studies have shown that even doctors not trained in paediatrics are able to make decisions on a par with the specialists in the field.
