Woman murdered in front of her son

BANGALORE: Thirty-five year-old Yamuna was stabbed to death, allegedly by her husband Elangovan (40), a bank employee, near Hulimavu in the MICO Layout police station limits on Thursday evening. Elangovan was later arrested along with his nephew, Prabhakar.

Yamuna had gone with her son Sibikiran to Elangovan's sister's house in Hulimavu to collect her dues. She was walking back to the bus stop with Sibikiran when Elangovan and Prabhakar allegedly accosted her with a knife. Elangovan is allegedly grabbed Yamuna by her hair and stabbed her on the stomach, neck and other parts. Profusely bleeding, she tried to escape by running into a nearby sawmill. But the accused chased her and allegedly stabbed her again, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Rama Subba said.

Passers-by alerted a Hoysala team a few metres away from the sawmill. But by the time they reached the spot, the accused was walking out of the mill. The victim was already dead. Sibikiran was a witness to the murder, Mr. Subba said.

The couple was married for 15 years and had a daughter, Vandana.

Two killed

A businessman and an Iranian cook were killed in road accidents on Thursday.

The police said Harsha (28), a businessman and a resident of Bannerghatta, was killed when a vehicle hit his motorcycle on Jigani Road, off KVJ Bangalore Hospital, around 3 a.m. The Bannerghatta police have registered a case.

In another accident, Hussein (51), an Iranian cook, was killed when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus hit his moped on Bellary Road, off HMT Bhavan, around 11 a.m. The R.T. Nagar traffic police have registered a case and seized the bus.

Laptop recovered

The J.P. Nagar police on Wednesday arrested two youths on charges of theft and recovered from them a laptop and nine mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 1 lakh.

The names of the arrested were given as Javed (21) and Nooruddin (18), both residents of Masjid Street in Vinayakanagar in 7th Phase, J.P. Nagar.
