Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The general court martial on Thursday granted time till Friday for Flying Officer Anjali Gupta's advocate to get acquainted with the case. The Indian Air Force officer is being tried on charges of irregularity and insubordination,
At the start of Thursday's proceedings, the jury was surprised to see the appearance of a new advocate, Mohan Kumar, when the name of her advocate, Subash Chandra Bhasin, was called.
On being asked by the jury, Ms. Gupta said Mr. Kumar belongs to the legal firm in New Delhi with which Mr. Bhasin is associated. She has entrusted the legal firm with the task of defending her before the court martial.
Later, Mr. Kumar said Mr. Bhasin could not go through with the proceedings as he had to rush back to New Delhi because of a professional commitment. He sought a week's time to get himself acquainted with the case.
The prosecutor, Wg. Cdr. R.K. Dubey, objected and said that time cannot be granted on such frivolous grounds when the stage is set for completion of prosecution evidence.
The presiding officer, Gp. Capt. V. Ganesh, adjourning the proceedings till Friday.
