Kharge may quit ministry
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
The senior member of the Cabinet, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, who has been appointed President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, is in favour of giving up his ministership and adhering to the party's "one man, one post principle."
Mr. Kharge, who is the Minister for Water Resources and Transport, told presspersons that there are cases where those in the Government have held positions in the Congress organisation.
However the decision is left to the All India Congress Committee.
Mr. Kharge said that his priority will be to strengthen the Congress in the State and ensure that it comes to power on its own in the next elections. The coalition Government with the Janata Dal (Secular) is an arrangement forced on the Congress as a result of its poor showing in the general elections in the State, he added. Asked about the attempts by some in the party to persuade the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, to quit the JD (S) and join the Congress, Mr. Kharge said the Congress is an ocean which anybody can join or leave.
