GUNTUR: Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) will probably be the first university in the country to have a sports hostel built on the campus. Plans are on to improve the facilities in a big way, said the ANU Vice Chancellor, V. Balamohan Dass. He was speaking at the prize distribution function of winners of various inter-university sports meets held during the year. The winners were awarded mementos and cash prizes by the university. The prize winners, along with their parents and Physical Education Directors of the colleges were honoured. Prof. Dass said that 47 new colleges were granted permission this year, taking the number of colleges in ANU's purview to 348. The University Physical Education Teachers Association felicitated the captain of the Indian Women's Kabaddi team, Koganti Swetha, who was instrumental in winning the Gold medal at the recently-held First Asian Women's Kabbadi meet in Hyderabad. The ANU Registrar, Luther Dass, and the Director of Physical Education, Y. Kishore, also spoke. Speaking separately, the Vice-Chancellor said research activities would be encouraged on a large scale across the university colleges. Work was on to prepare a status paper on research activities on the campus. The paper would have details of past researches undertaken at ANU and the present status and future aspirations of the university.
