RWAs refuse to pay increased power tariffs

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In open defiance of the Delhi Government, various residents' welfare associations across the Capital have decided not to pay the 10 per cent increase in their power bills that come into effect from this Friday. The RWA representatives have also decided to build up a public opinion movement against the move to pressurise the Government to take back the hike in power tariffs.

Participating in a daylong All Delhi RWA Conference organised by the non-government organisation People's Action on Thursday, they unanimously decided to pay just 90 per cent of the power bills till the hike is withdrawn.

Terming the concept of "Bhagidari" a big sham as no public opinion was sought before taking decisions, the RWAs also decided to move court if the Government or private power distribution companies resorted to any arm-twisting tactics.
