Official commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old official with the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Commission, V.N. Negi, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of Lok Nayak Bhavan in Central Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

Held for selling child

NEW DELHI: Two persons, including a quack, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly selling a two-day-old baby girl for Rs. 15,000.

According to the police, Shaukat Ali and Saleem Rehman were arrested at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Wednesday when they handed over the girl child to a decoy.

The duo also offered to sell a male child for Rs. 35,000.

Arrested with heroin

NEW DELHI: Three persons have been arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly possessing heroin.

According to the police, Naresh Kumar and Karan Singh were arrested at Inter-State Bus Terminus, Sarai Kale Khan, on Wednesday. Two kg heroin was recovered from them.

In another case, Rizwan Ali was arrested at Sultanpuri on Wednesday after he was found in possession of 1 kg of heroin.

Bomb hoax at Siri Fort

NEW DELHI: The South Delhi police were thrown into a tizzy on Friday evening after they received a call claiming that a bomb had been planted at Siri Fort Auditorium where the Osian's Cinefan Film Festival is due to open on Friday. The call was later declared a hoax.

According to the police, soon after the call was received around 6 p.m., the local police and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot. After a thorough check, the police declared the call a hoax.

Held with fake papers

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a 14-year-old boy, have been arrested by the Indira Gandhi Airport police for allegedly travelling on forged documents. According to the police, the boy and the woman, Manjeet Kaur Channa, were going to Canada on July 9 when they were arrested.

The boy claimed that he was Tanveer Sidhu, on his way to meet his father, Sukhvinder Sidhu, in Canada along with his aunt, Manjeet Kaur. However, investigations revealed that Sukhvinder's son, Tanveer, had died in 2003. Subsequently, Sukhvinder was arrested for conspiring with Manjeet in trafficking children. Both had managed to take three children, out of the country in Tanveer's name.

Job racket busted

NEW DELHI: Two persons, including a MCD school inspector, have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police for allegedly duping many people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the MCD. An advocate in Tis Hazari courts was also allegedly involved in the racket. According to the police, Joginder Taluja, Deputy Education Officer (South Zone), lodged a complaint with the EOW on July 9 about some persons sending forged appointment letters to people. Investigations revealed that a Class IV MCD employee Rajdin Khan was involved in the racket. He was subsequently arrested. At his instance, the police arrested Chander Dev Meena, a school inspector, posted in the South Zone. The police have also found evidence against R.K. Sharma, an advocate in Tis Hazari, who was said to be an accomplice.
