KOCHI: Talks were held here on Thursday night between Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Church Baselios Thomas I on the issue of reopening the St. Paul's and St. Peter's Church, Kolenchery. Mr. Chandy met the Catholicos on his way to Pulluvazhi in Perumbavoor to attend the cremation of the former Chief Minister P.K. Vasudevan Nair. This comes in the wake of Catholicos' warning that he will go on a week's fast in front of the Secretariat.
No decision yet
District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who had earlier convened a meeting of representatives of the Jacobite and Orthodox factions on the issue, said that no decision had been arrived yet on opening the church for Sunday mass and on weekdays. A few clarifications were expected on some issues from the Kerala High Court, the District Collector said.
