Kalam to arrive on July 27

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will arrive here on July 27 on a three-day visit to the State.

His programmes here include a historic address to the Assembly on July 28 and participation in the Silver Jubilee celebrations of India's entry into the space club. Mr. Kalam will spend the evening of July 27 at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre here.

He will address the Assembly at 9.30 a.m. the next morning and witness the launch of RH 200 rocket at the Control Centre of Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station. Later, he will address a symposium being organised in connection with the jubilee of the first successful satellite launch vehicle, SLV-3, and interact with the engineers of the Centre.

In the afternoon, the President will release a directory of research and development personnel in Kerala. Later, he will inaugurate the Habitat Centre of HUDCO at Kowdiar and meet Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma at the Kowdiar Palace. His next programme will be the launch of the educational transmissions in Kerala through the Edusat at Gorky Bhavan. The day's programmes will conclude with a visit to the Muslim Women's Association here and the release of the Malayalam translation of his book, `India 2020- a vision for new millennium,' at the Raj Bhavan.

On the July 29, he will address and interact with the students of Adi Sankara Institute of Engineering and Technology and Sri Sarada Vidyalaya at Kalady near Kochi.

Later, he will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the Sanatana Dharma Vidyalaya at Alappuzha. He will then proceed to Kottayam to participate in the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Rubber Research Institute there. There he will inaugurate the special cancer care project for children and interact with the students of SB College, Changanassery.

He will also visit the Parumala unit area of International Centre for Cardio, Thoracic and Vascular Diseases. The last programme of his itinerary will be a visit to the Cheraman Juma Masjid at Kodungallur. He will leave for Delhi by 7.10 p.m.
