Anti-tobacco rally

NEW DELHI : As part of "Police-Nagrik Cooperation Awareness Campaign", a rally will be taken out by students and teachers on the theme "Tobacco Control" from the Mandir Marg police station on Saturday. The Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Karnal Singh, will flag off the rally.

The idea is to create awareness about the ill-effects of smoking and use of other tobacco products besides bringing about an understanding between the police and the public.

The rally is being organised jointly by the Universal Helpage (India) Trust, Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti, Human Foundation and the Health Department of New Delhi Municipal Council.

Award programme

NEW DELHI : A scholarship-cum-award programme for meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Schedule Tribes, Other Backward Communities and economically weaker sections of society will be held at the Hindu College auditorium here on Sunday.

Organised jointly by the Delhi University Students' Union and Vivekanand Institute of Computer Education, this programme is organised annually for Class XII students. Prominent educationists, leaders of political parties and other eminent people will be attending the programme aimed at encouraging both meritorious and needy students.

Orientation ceremony

NEW DELHI : Amity Institute of Communication (AICO) organised its 7th Orientation Ceremony at Amity Campus in Noida near here earlier this week.

The ceremony started with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by `Saraswati Vandana'. The Institute's Director, Ashok Sinha, faculty members and students were among those present.

Engineers' Week

NEW DELHI : Appu Ghar is celebrating "Engineers' Week" till July 24. During the week, engineers (electrical, mechanical, civil, hardware, software, chemical and aeronautical, automobile and design) and their families can avail of a discount. All they have to do is to furnish proof of their identity at the ticket counter. In store are many surprise gifts, prizes and lucky draws.

Notice to police

NEW DELHI : The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Delhi police on an application by the former Baazee.com chief, Avnish Bajaj, seeking return of his passport.

While granting bail to Mr. Bajaj in the sleaze video clip case involving two students of a public school here last year, the High Court had directed him to submit his passport to the lower court concerned as one of the bail conditions.
