CHENNAI: Look up the newspapers everyday. Every section of society faces a legal tangle individuals, families, organisations, corporates, political parties and governments. From a youngster's viewpoint, law is a challenging as well as a lucrative career option. Legal matters can be broadly divided into two categories: public matters like administrative, criminal and administrative laws and the Constitution. Private matters relate to property, inheritance and property issues, or contracts. Opportunities are getting more exciting in the judicial services, civil services, corporates, or in teaching and research, says Sachin Malhan, alumnus of NLSIU Bangalore and head of LST, a preparatory training organisation for the law entrance exams. Some of the best institutes for legal career are National Law School of India University, Bangalore, NALSAR University of Law (Hyderabad), National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, National Law Institute University, Bhopal, and National Law University, Jodhpur.
How to get in
C.P. Vasan who heads LST, Chennai, says each college has its own entrance test comprising objective-type, multiple-choice questions intended to test logic, mathematics, English, general knowledge and legal reasoning. If you are a student in class XI or XII, call up LST, Chennai at: 52074970. It has one-year and two-year programmes for law aspirants.
