SRINAGAR: The Army on Saturday foiled two more attempts by a large number of militants who had sneaked across the Line of Control (LoC). Nine militants were killed in the Uri sector while four were gunned down in Kupwara even as the toll in the four-day-long operation in Gurez has gone up to eleven.
Nine get into Gulmarg-Boniyar sub-sector
Defence spokesman Lt. Col. V.K. Batra said that a group of nine militants infiltrated into the Gulmarg-Boniyar sub-sector in Uri in the early hours. "When they were challenged by the troops they opened fire and in the ensuing battle nine of them were killed," he said. Security forces foiled the other infiltration bid by killing four militants in the Keran sector of Kupwara near the Line of Control. "These militants had sneaked in through Kalas in Keran sector and as soon as they were spotted security forces engaged them in battle, killing all of them," the spokesman said.
Toll in Gurez gun-battle goes up
The toll in the Gurez gun-battle has gone up to 11 with the recovery of two more bodies. The search was still on, Lt. Col. P. Sehgal of 15 Corps headquarters told The Hindu. On Friday nine bodies were found after a 100-hour-long gun-battle.
