CHENNAI: The common entrance test (CET) for the over 32,000 engineering seats available under the management quota in Tamil Nadu would be held on August 6 and 7. For the second successive year, the Consortium of Professional, Arts and Science Colleges of Tamil Nadu has been authorised to conduct the test, said its president, Jeppiar. An order to this effect was passed by the Permanent Committee constituted for the conduct of common entrance test, headed by Justice S.S. Subramani on Saturday, according to Mr. Jeppiar. He said applications for the CET would be issued from July 18 onwards, and the last date for submitting the filled in applications would be July 27. Distribution of hall tickets, however, would commence on July 25 itself to avoid the eleventh hour rush, he said. The entrance examination would be held at over 150 member-colleges (which had given consent letters to the Consortium and requested a CET centre). Mr. Jeppiar also noted that the Consortium would grant permission to even non-member-colleges if they submitted their request in proper format. A common rank list would be released at the end of the process and students need not apply to individual colleges for admissions. The application form, available for Rs. 50, would have a column for indicating the options, Mr. Jeppiar said. Candidates can also apply online by accessing the consortium website tnsfconsortium.org he said, adding that it would help the other States students. The Consortium has been permitted to hold entrance examination at one centre each in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi and Kolkata.
Examination fee
The examination fee would be Rs. 200 for SCs and STs, and Rs. 400 for other category students. In case of vocational course candidates, it would be Rs. 100 for SCs and STs and Rs. 200 for others. Applications forms will be available in the respective colleges, Mr. Jeppiar said. Last year, over 35,000 students wrote the entrance examination of the Consortium and about 22,000 joined the colleges. "This year we expect the number to be more," he said. Mr. Jeppiar, however, could not specify the dates when the rank list would be released and counselling held.
