CHENNAI: : Visual communication courses are the most sought after by students who look beyond professional courses. It is because of the exciting job opportunities one gets in cinema, short and ad film-making, in television channels, in new and traditional media, in photography and other areas where visuals are the basic content drivers. However, most students need to dish out huge sums as course fees for learning even the basics of visual communication. Softview Visual Communication, a private education institute, claims to offer a comprehensive diploma in visual communication at a nominal fee. M. Antopeter, director, says his institute was started 14 years ago to provide quality education to students who cannot afford to shell out huge sums. "The fee we charge is Rs. 68,000 to cover the expenses for providing at least the basic course requirements." "The institute provides a comprehensive one-year diploma course covering the fundamentals of visual communication, painting, print media, advertising, videography, photography and info architecture." The course is bi-lingual to enable the students to cater to the Tamil media. Students get hands-on training, contributing to the institute's Tamil e-magazine, www. tamilcinema.com, and bringing out a bi-lingual in-house tabloid, `Vergal'. Some of the emerging fields are corporate advertising and web journalism. Popular personalities including Maalan, Ramesh Prabha, film directors Charan, and Stanely and well-known photographers are being roped in to provide content support. This year's batch begins on July 18. The institute is at 117, Nelson Manickam Road, Choolaimedu, Chennai. For registration, call 044-5211 3535.
