Bus services from Manipur resume

KOHIMA: The inter-state bus service between Manipur and neighbouring States resumed on Saturday after a gap of nine days following the blockade and bandh that affected traffic on the arterial Imphal-Guwahati National Highway 39.

Hundreds of passengers were still stranded in Guwahati and Imphal and it would take at least three to four days to transport them to their destinations, sources in transport offices said.

At Kohima, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio assured Manipur of providing escorts for Imphal-bound vehicles on NH 39 inside the State. His Government could not provide 100 per cent guarantee with the limited police forces at its disposal as "people were getting involved in the agitation." — PTI
