Infiltration bids foiled

Three attempts to cross LoC in the Keran, Uri and Sunderbani sectors thwarted

  • Self-styled commander of the Al Badr outfit, Harron Rashid, killed in Kupwara district
  • Two militants killed in an encounter with troops of 14 grenadiers at Rangwar forests in Kupwara
  • Labourer killed by crossfire in Pulwama district

SRINAGAR: Thirteen militants were killed on Saturday as the Army foiled two attempts of militant infiltration into the valley in the Keran and Uri sectors, a Defence spokesman said.

Nine militants were killed at Chotari in the Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district after they had crossed over to this side of the Line of Control, the spokesman said. He said the militants were intercepted and shot dead in the ensuing gunfight by security forces at Chotari while they were heading towards the Gulmarg sector.

Earlier, security forces foiled another infiltration bid and killed four militants in the Keran sector of Kupwara near the LoC, he said. On the identity of the slain militants, details were still awaited, he said. — PTI
