RAJAHMUNDRY: The first-ever regional workshop on `Quality assurance and adopting new techniques' for sustainable development of road network has vowed to maintain international standards in construction of roads. The one-day workshop was organised by the Roads and Buildings Department on Saturday and was inaugurated by Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and attended by Minister for Roads and Buildings Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, Minister for Animal Husbandry Gollapalli Surya Rao, Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Aruna Kumar and MLAs from East and West Godavari districts. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasada Rao asked R&B engineers from the nine coastal districts to follow ethics in construction of roads. He said that every engineer should keep in mind about the accountability for public money. Mr. Ramamohana Rao said that Rs.2 crores was given for each district towards road safety measures. He said that they secured Rs.500 crores HUDCO funds for rural road network and safety measures. Mr. Aruna Kumar asked engineers to be away from corruption and be honest in work. Peter, advisor to the Government on quality control, R&B Department, said that the department had planned to lay dust-free roads in all rural areas in a year. The East Godavari Collector, Anil Kumar Singhal, suggested adoption of district-wise master plan for road network. V. Ravindranath, State Architect, R&B Department and B. Lakshmaiah, R&B Superintendent Engineer, and others spoke.
