New MCD school opened

NEW DELHI: The Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Saturday inaugurated a newly constructed Municipal Corporation of Delhi primary school building at Old Seemapuri in East Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit highlighted the need for building a strong education system in the Capital. She lauded the role played by MCD in taking care of the needs of children belonging to poorer and weaker sections of society.

Warning against use of antibiotics

NEW DELHI: The president of the Heart Care Foundation of India, K.K. Aggarwal, on Saturday warned against indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Delivering a lecture organised by the Delhi Medical Association, Dr. Aggarwal said: "It is important to remember that not all fevers are due to infections and not all infections are caused by bacteria. The majority of infections seen in general are viral and antibiotics can neither treat viral infections nor prevent secondary bacterial infections among patients."

Orientation programmes

NEW DELHI: Orientation and foundation programmes for new batches of various business management courses of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Management were organised in the Capital this past week.

The president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Anil Agarwal, delivered the inaugural address highlighting the business scenario in the country and challenges faced by the Indian industry and corporate houses. A number of top business leaders will be addressing the students on industry trends, expectations and career growth opportunities.

Disruption of power supply

NEW DELHI: Due to maintenance work, power supply will remain disrupted in some parts of South Delhi on Sunday. According to the private power distribution company BSES, areas that will remain affected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. include Nehru Place's Building Nos.37, 75, 76 and 89 and IFCI Tower, Garhi (SFS), Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash-I.

Old age homes

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, has reiterated that the State Government is committed to doing everything required for the welfare of the elderly.

There was an urgent need for constructing old age homes to provide solace, food and a place to live to the elderly, he said while laying foundation stone of an old age home in Dwarka sub-city in South West Delhi
