Commodity prices

Following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Saturday: Groundnut oil - 52.50, palmolein oil - 39.50, sunflower oil - 50, tamarind (flower variety) - 22 to 29, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 42 to 47, chillies (new) - 15 to 20, rice (2716) - 13.50, rice (superfine) - 15, rice (sona masoori) - 17 to 19, rice (samba masoori) - 16 to 17.50, black gram - 27 to 28.50, red gram - 28 to 31.50.

I-T help centres

To help small business taxpayers in matters of filing income tax returns, challans and PAN applications, the Income-Tax Department has opened two help centres in the city. Taxpayers can consult the help centre located at Andhra Chamber of Commerce on Bandar Road between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the centre at Taxation Bar Association on Prakasam Road between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The help centres will function up to November, this year.

Mala Mahanadu plea

The district president of Mala Mahanadu, P. Ramesh, on Saturday, asked the State Government to withdraw its decision of sending a delegation of all party leaders to New Delhi to finalise the issue of Scheduled Castes categorisation. Addressing a district-level meeting of the organisation here, he criticised the TDP for dividing the Scheduled Castes into two groups by introducing categorisation when the party was in power.

Showroom opened

The managing director of LB Electronics, Indrajit, on Saturday, inaugurated Pee-Kay Electronics at Governorpet. Bestavision Television Company has appointed Pee-Kay Electronics as its dealer for Andhra Pradesh. Televisions made by Bestavision, TCL and air-conditioners made by Hundai will be on display in the showroom.
