Tenders called from software firms; selection in one week

  • People can suggest a name for website
  • All 972 villages to be covered
  • 10,000 pictures to be put on the Net

VIJAYAWADA: The district administration is contemplating launching a website with details of villages in the district on August 15.

The idea is to help non-resident Indians know the latest developments in their native. They can visit their schools and places in their village on the website.

The district Collector, Navin Mittal, proposed the website last month. Tenders have been invited from software companies to develop the website and the administration will finalise a company in one week. "We plan to place over 10,000 photographs in the website. Mandal resource persons are collecting information and photographs," said Mr. Mittal. Information of all the 972 villages will be available on the website with photographs of the important places of each village. Preference will be given to the visuals of school buildings, hospitals and historic places. Photographs of over 1,000 schools will be placed on the website.

"The website will also highlight the problems of the villages. Those who want to contribute for a particular work in a specified village can send their donations through the website," the Collector explained.

    Info on festivals

The first of its kind website is yet to be named and the Collector is inviting suggestions from people. "We will update the information regularly and send feedback to the philanthropists on the progress of works taken up with their contributions. The website will also provide information about festivals," said Mr. Mittal.
