CHENNAI: The Madras Management Association (MMA) will pursue a nine-point agenda in its golden jubilee year, which includes initiatives for establishing a convention centre with state-of-the-art facilities in Chennai. Outlining the agenda at a function to mark MMA's foundation day and inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations here on Saturday, Srinivasan K. Swamy, its past president, said a two-acre plot had been tentatively identified for the purpose. The association proposes to mobilise Rs. 20 crores through contributions from industry and bank loans for the project involving construction of a 50,000 sq. ft. complex with 500 car parks. Another part of the agenda would be to take initiatives for setting up a premium management institution in the league of the Indian Institute of Management, said Mr. Swamy, who is also chairman of the golden jubilee celebrations committee. As part of the celebrations, MMA would organise 12 "Leaders speak on management" lectures; a meeting every month on the success stories of organisations in the region; and a regional conclave in the last week of October on "Role of industry in development of south India." In the first week of December, it plans to conduct a south zone conference on "SME (small and medium enterprises) as engines of growth and employment" and a two-day golden jubilee annual convention in mid-December, for which MMA plans to invite the Prime Minister. A "grand finale" on July 14 next year would mark the culmination of the celebrations. During the year, MMA would also take initiatives for the launch of a series of industry specific programmes in various areas, including those on the entertainment industry, foreign trade, SME quality upgradation, hospitality and healthcare, Mr. Swamy said. Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations M.K. Raju, the senior most past president of MMA, called for maximum participation of the members in the programmes of the Association. He urged MMA to launch residential courses for management executives and encourage its members to send case studies for discussion. The Sanmar group chairman and co-chief patron of MMA Advisory Council, N. Sankar, who unveiled the golden jubilee logo, said the association was one of the smoothest running organisations. MMA president D.P. Padmanabhan outlined the association's growth since its inception as the Madras Institute of Management in July 1956.
