Stage set for survey on Pranahita scheme

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday said that orders had been issued to conduct survey for the construction of lift irrigation scheme across Pranahita to utilise 165 tmcft water to irrigate agriculture lands in Telangana region.

At a three-hour-long review meeting with elected representatives and senior Congress leaders, the Chief Minister gave a comprehensive picture of the efforts initiated by the Government to complete 26 irrigation projects.

Aided by power point presentation, the Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to questions raised by Congress MLAs from all regions and also senior party leaders.

The Major Irrigation Minister, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, told reporters after the meeting that 17 issues were raised.

He said orders had been issued to undertake survey of proposed lift irrigation scheme across Pranahita. The project intends to irrigate 12 lakh acres of land in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal, Medak, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts.

Land acquisition

When the problem of land acquisition was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, he promised to redress the issue immediately.

The proposed Collector's conference would deliberate at length about the problems faced in land acquisition, the Minister said. Similarly, orders were issued to conduct survey to construct one more lift irrigation scheme across Godavari to cater to the needs of agriculture lands in Manthani, Mahadevpur and Bhupalpalli areas of Karimnagar and Warangal districts.

He informed that in Telangana alone, 72 packages had been taken up, of which, bids for 50 were finalised.

In all Rs. 12,994 crores would be spent to irrigate 21 lakh acres in Telangana region.
