HYDERABAD: The Sports Minister, M. Satyanaryana Rao, on Sunday handed over his resignation letter to the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, perturbed over reports in a section of the media alleging his involvement in the endowment land scam. Mr. Rao, who came to the Chief Minister's camp office on Sunday evening to attend elected representatives and senior Congress leaders meeting reportedly, gave the letter to Dr. Reddy at the end of it.
Second resignation
This is the second time in the recent past that Mr. Rao has tendered his resignation. He had resigned when the endowments land scam surfaced. Dr. Reddy did not accept his resignation. Subsequently, he was shifted from Endowments to Sports and Culture. Sources said Mr. Rao, who returned from his tour of Karimnagar, could not attend the breakfast meeting which Dr. Reddy hosted for former PCC presidents and former CLP leaders . He, however came to the evening review meeting ahead of the scheduled time. He reportedly told a few elected representatives present there that he was carrying his resignation letter. The Information and Public Relations Minister, Md. Ali Shabbir, reportedly persuaded Mr. Rao to drop the idea.
Declines to comment
Sources said Mr. Rao was visibly upset by the news report. Mr. Rao sat till the end of the meeting and handed over his resignation letter and left the place. He could not be reached for comment. Only on Saturday Mr. Rao spoke of committing three mistakes -- contesting Assembly elections, joining the Ministry and accepting the Endowments portfolio.
