Irate ryots seeking funds, disrupt traffic

Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH: Farmers of several villages staged rasta roko at Vontimitta bus stand on Monday, demanding additional allocation of Rs. 1 crore to complete a lift-irrigation scheme, on which Rs. 2.20 crores was spent so far.

CPI (M) district Secretary B. Narayana, asserted that completion of the scheme would augment irrigation and drinking water needs of the mandal. The Government was not responding to representations to sanction Rs. 1 crore to complete the scheme, he alleged.

Stir to be intensified

Struggle Committee convenor A. Chandrasekhar Reddy, alleged that farmers were forced to launch an agitation due to the Government's negligence. CPI (M) mandal secretary, K. Yanadaiah, and district Office Secretary, S.V. Ramana, called upon farmers to intensify their stir. They demanded that the Rajampet MLA K. Prabhavathamma, declare her stand on the incomplete scheme. Praja Natya Mandali artistes rendered songs depicting the plight of drought-hit ryots.
