Panel gets more time to probe Zahira's claims

The key witness alleged social activist Teesta Setalvad filed affidavits on her own

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday extended till August 16 the time for the high-level committee it appointed to probe the veracity of the allegations and counter allegations made by the key witness in the Best Bakery case, Zahira Sheikh, and social activist Teesta Setalvad accusing her of having accepted a bribe.

A Bench consisting of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice S.H. Kapadia granted the extension of time on a request by the panel, headed by Registrar-General B. M. Gupta.

The committee, formed on January 10, was asked to find out whether Zahira's statement that she had not filed any affidavit before the apex court .
