PUDUKOTTAI: The importance of milk processing, effective utilisation of excessive milk produced and the scope for milk products were emphasised to farmers and farm women during a one-day training programme on "preparation of milk products" organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Vamban in the district recently. The scientists of the KVK explained to the participants that milk processing was the best method to convert large quantities of unsold milk, especially those produced in rural areas, into variety of value-added products. Inaugurating the training programme, Dr. SP. Ramanathan, Associate Professor and Head, KVK, said that despite increased milk production in rural areas, large quantities of milk got spoilt due to less number of milk processing units in the State. He underscored the importance of milk processing and the scope for milk products in future and its marketability. A demonstration on various milk product preparations was conducted for the benefit of the participants. As many as 25 participants were benefited by the training programme.
