CHENNAI: A human resources services provider in the State, Adecco Peopleone India, has launched an initiative to help in the rehabilitation of the tsunami-affected areas in Nagapattinam and Karaikal districts. According to Mr. Suresh Gummaraju, Deputy General Manager - South Operations, Adecco, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, has tied up with DHAN Foundation, an NGO working with the affected communities, to set up village information and education centres in six villages. They seek to work for livelihood restoration, though community empowerment which is achieved by development intervention and education for the poorest families in the communities. The company is taking up providing quality computer education to children in 13-18 years age group from poor families in the affected villages. The courses delivered include a diploma in Computer Applications, which would help the young to find jobs doing data-entry, document preparation (DTP), among others.
Interaction
The initiative also enables interaction between farmers/fishermen with Government departments/experts in their respective fields to tackle day-to-day problems; provides tie-ups with hospitals/health centres to offer diagnosis/inputs on healthcare for women and children; providing livelihood support activities (such as giving livestock or farm birds) to the worst-affected in the six villages.
Seed grant
A part of the funds invested would be used as a seed grant to the community for use as microfinance. Mr. Suresh Gummaraju said the company was also speaking to other corporates to garner their support in the project and broad base the activities to help the affected communities.
