TDP wants packages for other regions too

Special Correspondent

`They also need attention like Telangana'

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Monday sought special development packages for other backward regions in the State, similar to the one for Telangana announced by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Addressing a press conference the TDP leaders, T. Seetharam and K. Ramamohan Rao said other regions like North Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema too required similar attention. They were backward in terms of irrigation, health, education, employment and poverty alleviation.

Reacting to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi's criticism of the Sitapathi Rao, Advisor to the Government on Irrigation, they said it was wrong to attribute regional bias against officials.

YSR's portfolios

The two leaders said there was virtually no Government in the State, bogged down as it was in "scams and corrupt deals" and in tackling the fall- out of the resignation by six TRS Ministers and threat held out by another Minister. They said the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who was already holding 11 portfolios, is saddled with six more. "He appears scared of expanding the Cabinet as it may spawn dissidence. He is equally afraid of sacking Ministers involved in scams as he wants to safeguard his position".
