THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare will organise essay and elocution contests in Malayalam on the occasion of Independence Day. Separate contests would be held for lower primary, upper primary and high school sections. The district child welfare councils will conducts contests at the district-level and the winners in these contests will take part in the final round to be held at Thiruvananthapuram. Cash awards of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 500 and Rs. 300 respectively and certificates will be given to those in the first three places. Prizes would be distributed on August 15. The district councils will conduct the contests before July 30. The topic for essay writing for LP group will be , `The Independence Day celebrations that I saw'. For UP section, the topic would be `Gandhiji, in my perspective'. High school students should write on the topic, `Children's rights and responsibilities'. The topics for the elocution contests would be announced half-an-hour prior to the commencement of the contest.
