Manipur sends trucks to fetch essential commodities
Correspondent
IMPHAL:
At least 200 trucks left Imphal on Tuesday morning for Jiribam on Assam border to fetch essential commodities to help the State badly hit by the indefinite economic blockade since June 20.
Meanwhile, the All-Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) has threatened to impose a counter economic blockade against Nagaland if the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) failed to lift the economic blockade. The All-Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) imposed the blockade in protest against the declaration of State holiday on June 18 contending that it would affect the demand for a Naga homeland. Though it is an internal affair of Manipur the Nagaland-based students' body, NSF, has imposed the blockade.
An AAMSU statement said that the economic blockade by the NSF was unjustifiable. The blockade should be withdrawn and some other democratic methods should be adopted.
