Power theft must be plugged, says Sayeed

NEW DELHI: Minister for Power P.M. Sayeed on Tuesday stressed the need for plugging pilferage of power and improving the distribution system to contain the aggregate technical and commercial losses.

Addressing members of the consultative committee attached to his Ministry here, Mr. Sayeed said AT&C losses was a national problem and the Government was doing its utmost to devise ways and means to tackle the situation.

During the discussions on transmission and distribution losses, some members said there was a mismatch between the T&D system and generation of power and suggested replacement of faulty meters to avoid theft and pilferage. They also pointed to the need for investment of sufficient funds for renovation and modernisation so as to reduce the AT&C losses.
